# Send a message

Sends one LinkedIn message right away, to a 1st-degree connection or into an existing conversation.

Note: Sends a real message at once: confirm the text first. Pass text and one of profileUrl or conversationId. LinkedIn delivers an ordinary message only to a 1st-degree connection; invite anyone else first. 100 messages a day per account.

## Set up

Use the first option your agent supports.

### MCP (official, remote)

Add this server to your agent's MCP settings, then sign in when asked.

```json
{ "mcpServers": { "heyreagent": { "url": "https://api.heyreagent.com/mcp" } } }
```

Call the MCP tool `send_message`.

Server URL: https://api.heyreagent.com/mcp

Note: Claude and ChatGPT sign in to HeyReagent in the browser, with no key. Connect the LinkedIn account on heyreagent.com first. Each tool has the same name and inputs as the API action.

### API (official)

- Base URL: https://api.heyreagent.com
- Endpoint: `POST /v1/actions/send_message`
- Auth: send the header `Authorization: Bearer $HEYREAGENT_API_KEY`
- Get a key: https://heyreagent.com/t
- Docs: https://heyreagent.com/docs

Note: Every action is a POST to /v1/actions/<name> with its inputs as a JSON body, reads included. Create the key under Menu, then Developers; it is shown once. An answer is { ok: true, result } or { ok: false, error, message }.

Before anything else, confirm access with the cheapest read-only call, like a list or a search. Never send or change anything to test access.

## Rules

- Ask the user before anything that sends messages, costs money, or changes data, and say how many records it touches. One approval covers a batch the user has seen.
- Never print API keys.
